Story of Blue Fish

Original Sketch

What is Blue Fish? Where did the name come from? Well back in 2005 I (Marcus) decided that doing business under my name was extremely uncreative. We had moved to the Eastern Shore of Mobile a few years before and I had been working under Marcus Neto Consulting. I wanted something that reflected some of that creativity but also reflected who I am. So I started trying to come up with a name. As anyone who has ever tried to come up with a name can tell you it is an extremely frustrating process. Especially if it is for your own business.

Finally I was with a good friend one day working on something and we started bouncing around the internet trying to get some inspiration. We were searching for inspiration on the Dr. Suess website. At the time I only had 2 boys but my oldest LOVED to draw sea creatures. So when saw the title One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish it struck me. Blue Fish Logo Version 1I love the color blue and loved the drawings my son drew. So I adopted the name Blue Fish. It was appropriate for the area and hit home on a couple of fronts.

As for the logo I did what any good designer does and had my (at the time) 5 yr old draw a fish that I could use. His drawings were a good portion of the inspiration behind the name so why not. The image you see above is the original scan I took of his drawing. I ran over it with a marker but other than that it is his drawing. I brought it into FreeHand 11 and managed this version.

I stayed with this version until recently when we made some slight changes just adding some gradients and shadowing

Along with the logo the business has progressed over the years. I remember fondly the very first real client we worked with was David's Counter Culture. From there we have progressed into a company that has served clients in California, Switzerland, Belgium and Lower Alabama. Blue Fish Logo Version 2We have created E-Commerce sites and simple one page websites with a name and number. We have helped 1 person consulting firms and National Brand names and Government Agencies. And we've done a fair amount of work for other Design Studios that needed a hand. All in all we have over 150 clients. Most of those are in the Mobile Alabama area and on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay (Spanish Fort, Daphne and Fairhope).

This has been a very rewarding experience. I love what I do. Taking pictures, crafting ads, building out websites, training clients on how to better market themselves. It was all just a pipe dream. So in closing I just want to say thank you to the 150+ people that have utilized our services over the 5 years that I have been doing this. Without you this would not have lasted nearly as long.
